Horticulture is an application science. Not only the advances in crop science but also technology delivery toward industry are important. I would say horticulture is also the art of bridging the gap. The gaps could be the transportation of harvested products from farm to dinning table, or the translation of developed biotechnology from bench to corporation. I received master of science degree of horticultural crop science in NTU with transcriptomic analysis. Skyrocketing amount of biological data is making the computer usage in research an inevitable trend. However, the development of new technology is way faster than the course arrangement in most of the colleges. Students must gain the ability of self-teaching.
“RNA-Sick” is named after the game-changing gene expression profiling methodology “RNA-Seq”. I started the “RNA-Sick” project in 2019 hoping to bridge the learning gap for students without computer science background who wants to start their journey into interdisciplinary research. The specific approaches include but not limit to building a supportive learning environment, documenting conference summaries and learning resources, and promoting tools developed for emerging phenomena. For now, most of the materials are traslated from English into Chinese or documented in Chinese. In the future I plan to broaden the form of content with different language and media.
